21st Century Programs

The key components of the 21st Century programs are to provide expanded learning opportunities for participating children in a safe, drug-free and supervised environment.

The East Central Ohio ESC, the Outreach Operations for the YMCA (Twin City Satellite YMCA) and the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts are currently providing many after school programs.  These programs are part of:

Project ABC: Academic Achievement, Body Fitness and Cultural Enrichment.

This program features an intervention math and reading curriculum, an enriched math, reading and language arts curriculum, an after school Fun Club, a Youth Fitness Center and fine arts programs.  It is the stated mission that "The ECOESC will meet the needs of all area students now and in the future by "helping schools help children" by supporting, coordinating and providing a wide range of best practices and quality programs.  A core value of this philosophy is that all children deserve an EQUAL opportunity for education.  Aligning to the goals of No Child Left Behind and rooted in Project ABC is the building block principle that "ALL students will reach high academic standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency at or above levels, prescribed by the state, in reading/language arts and mathematics."

Project ABC is making an effort to develop an enriched curriculum program that will serve all of our students, especially our economically disadvantaged, special needs students and/or students scoring below grade level expectation.

Please support us as we prepare our students to move through the 21st Century.

Tuscarawas Learning Center:

The Tuscarawas Learning Center (TLC) after-school remediation program is available for students in grades 1 through 8. The program focuses on helping students to meet the requirements of the math and reading state mandated tests. All instruction will be based on a computer curriculum for students in direct alignment with proficiency areas. Certified teachers will teach all classes. Parents can register their students by phone or can contact the ESC to receive an application. This program is made possible by funding from a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.

The homework help time has become a very popular segment of the TLC program. Your student will have time to finish homework, study for a test, or get help with their homework from a teacher.  The time alloted for homework help is only 50 minutes. Please do not assume your child was able to complete all of his/her homework during this time.

We have added an additional tutor that will be working with small groups each night. She will be using a SmartBoard, games, manipulatives, activity sheets, flash cards, additional software and the SkillsTutor online programs.

Please note:  If you are interested in enrolling your student for summer, fall, or spring sessions you may contact Marilyn Roder (330) 308-9939 ext 8251. If we are not currently taking registrations we will glady place you on our waiting list. Once a spot becomes available, you will receive a phone call to register your child.
